LOBELIA BABIES PANTS (SHORTS) SUIT

Hello again!
Another pattern for you to try! I have really enjoyed the challenge - especially working out how to section off the legs! I think it's worked okay - let me know what you think.
If you make up this little suit, please would you let me know if there are any errors or if there is something that doesn't quite 'work' - Thanks!

LOBELIA BABIES PANTS (SHORTS) SUIT

Terminology – American

Abbreviations:  SS: Slip Stitch   SC: Single Crochet  DC: Double Crochet
CH: Chain   CHS:
Chains   ST
: Stitch    STS: Stitches  RND: Round   RNDS: Rounds SK: SKIP   DC2TOG: Double crochet 2 stitches together

HOOKS: Size 3.50 (E) for preemie
                Size 4.50 (G) for 3 - 6 months
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREEMIE (size 1) in bold.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR 3 – 9 months (size 2) in brackets & italics.

PREEMIE MEASUREMENTS: JUMPER ACROSS: (underarm to underarm): 17cms Length (from back of neck to hem): 16cms PANTS (SHORTS): (from top of waist to pant bottoms): 17cms

3 – 9 MONTHS MEASUREMENTS: JUMPER ACROSS (underarm to underarm): 20cms LENGTH (from back of neck to hem) :19cms PANTS (SHORTS): (from top of waist to pant bottoms): 20cms

HOW TO APPLY THE SPECIAL BLANKET EDGE STITCH:
(Used on sleeve cuffs & bottom of shorts) Attach yarn to work in least noticeable place (underneath the arm sleeve of the jumper & in between the legs of the shorts)
 CH 1. *SC into
next ST
then SC underneath the
next ST
of the previous row * (thus forming a short ST & then a long ST) Repeat from * to * SS & fasten off)

SO LET US BEGIN:………

JUMPER

TO START - Chain 30 (36)

RND 1 – DC in 4th CH from the hook & next 2 (3) CHS 3DC in next CH. DC in next 4 (5) CHS. 3DC in next CH. DC in next 8 (10) CHS. 3DC in next CH. DC in next 4 (5) CHS. 3DC in the next CH. DC in last 4 (5) CHS
CH 2, turn

RNDS 2 – 5 (Both Sizes) DC in each DC across putting 3DC in centre DC of each 3DC group. CH 2, turn.

RND 6 (Both Sizes) DC across to centre of 1st 3DC group, DC into centre ST, CH 3 (4), skip across to next 3DC group & DC in centre ST & each ST across to centre ST of 3rd DC group, DC into centre ST, CH 3 (4), skip to last 3DC put DC in centre of 3DC group & across to end, CH 1, turn.

RND 7 (Both Sizes) SC in each DC across, CH 1 placing either a stitch marker or different coloured yarn into this ST.
RNDS 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12 (Both Sizes) Turn your work in order to work up front Button Hole edge of the jumper moving towards the neck. SC in each ST up to neck edge, CH 1 turn. SC back down until you reach the stitch marker/yarn, CH 1, turn. SC in each ST towards the neck again one more time, CH 3 (this is to form the first Button Hole). Turn to work back down towards the stitch marker. Skip1 ST. SC into next stitch. Work your way down, placing 2 more evenly spaced Button Holes in the same manner as before. SS to finish & fasten off. Place another stitch marker or coloured yarn into the
last ST
.

RNDS 12, 13, 14 & 15 (Both sizes & to form the Button Band) Attach yarn to bottom edge of opposite side in order to work up towards the neck again. Ch 1, place stitch marker or coloured yarn into this ST. SC in each ST towards neck edge, CH 1, turn. SC in each ST down as you did for Buttonhole Edge. CH 1, turn. SC in each ST down. SS & fasten off. Place another stitch marker or coloured yarn in as you do so!

RND 16  (Both Sizes) (Joining Row)  Before continuing, pin your jumper together matching up the stitch markers/coloured yarn, making sure that the Buttonhole edge is the one uppermost facing you! Attach yarn to middle of the right underarm attaching a stitch marker or coloured yarn into your
first ST.
CH 1, continuing to SC in each ST, working across the back of the jumper & putting the hook through both thicknesses when you reach the pinned Button Hole edge & Button Band edge, thereby rendering your work joined! NB:(Take care not to impinge on the bottom buttonhole as you do so). Upon reaching the right underarm where you started this row, SS into the first SC of the previous row.

RNDS 17 & 18 (Both Sizes) *CH 2 moving your stitch marker down accordingly into the
first ST
of the next & every following row. DC into each ST around, joining the end of the row with a SS into the first DC of preceding row. Repeat from * to *(for RND 18)
At the end of RND 18, fasten off.

RND 19 & 20 YARN COLOUR CHANGE (Both sizes) Attach contrasting coloured yarn. *CH 2 (acts as first DC) & DC into the back loops only of every ST* until you reach the point at which you attached the yarn. Repeat from * to * (for RND 20) SS & fasten off.

RND 21 YARN COLOUR CHANGE (Both sizes) Attach the main colour yarn to the point at which you fastened off on round 20 & CH 2 (acts as first DC). DC into each ST around until you reach the point at which you attached the main colour yarn. SS & fasten off.

RND 22 YARN COLOUR CHANGE (Both sizes) Attach the contrasting colour to the point at which you fastened off on RND 21 & CH 2 (acts as first DC). DC into back loops only of every ST until you reach the point at which you attached the contrasting colour. SS & fasten off

RNDS 23 PLUS YARN COLOUR CHANGE (Both sizes) Attach the main colour yarn to the point at which you fastened off on RND 22. Attach ST marker or piece of coloured yarn & *CH  2. DC in each ST around placing a SS into the previous RND upon reaching the ST marker or coloured yarn.*
Repeat from * to * until the jumper measures approximately 16 (19)cms from the back of the neck down. SS & fasten off.

BOTH SIZES: Attach contrasting yarn to side seam. CH 1 & SC around, once. SS & fasten off.

COLLAR

(Both sizes) Attach contrasting yarn to neck edge. CH 1 & SC into each ST around. CH 1 & turn. *CH 3 (5) SK 3STS & SS into
next ST
*. Repeat from * to * SS & fasten off.


SLEEVES (BOTH ALIKE) (Make 2)

(Both Sizes) Attach yarn underneath arm attaching ST marker or piece of yarn. CH 2 (acts as first DC) & DC into each ST around. *Upon reaching the ST marker SS & CH1. SC in each ST around.* Repeat from * to * moving the ST marker down with each RND completed & continue until each sleeve measures 6cms (8cms) from the underarm to the cuff. SS & fasten off.

Use the special BLANKET EDGING STITCH (SEE INSTRUCTIONS ABOVE)  to finish off around cuffs.

Add 3 contrasting buttons to button band.

PANTS (SHORTS)

Cast on 70 (78) STS. Join with a SS to form a circle.

RND 1*CH 2 DC into each ST around SS at the end of the RND*.

RNDS 2 & 3 Repeat from * to *

RND 4 - 11 (Decrease RNDS) All RNDS worked alike as follows:

RND 4 DC into 33 (38) STS. *DC 2TOG DC to last 2 STS, DC 2TOG. SS to
first ST
worked CH 2 (68 STS) (76 STS) remain.
RND 5 DC into 32 (37) STS then repeat from * to * (66 STS) (74 STS ) remain.
RND 6 DC into 31 (36) STS then repeat from * to * (64 STS) (72 STS ) remain
RND 7 DC into 30 (35) STS then repeat from * to * (62 STS) (70 STS ) remain
RND 8 DC into 29 (34) STS then repeat from * to * (60 STS) (68 STS ) remain
RND 9 DC into 28 (33) STS then repeat from * to * (58 STS) (66 STS ) remain
RND 10 DC into 27 (32) STS then repeat from * to* (56 STS) (64 STS ) remain
RND 11 DC into 26 (31) STS then repeat from * to* (54 STS) (62 STS ) remain do not fasten off!

NOW TURN YOUR WORK SO THAT THE SIDE SEAM (WHERE ALL THE SS’S HAVE BEEN PLACED IN THE PREVIOUS RNDS), BECOMES THE BACK SEAM OF THE PANTS (SHORTS).

NOW CH 4 (6)  SS to middle front of pants (shorts). This creates the division for the legs.

LEG 1 (Both sizes) CH 2 (acts as first DC) DC around this first leg opening only, continuing across the connecting CH. SS to back of pants (shorts).
Repeat from * to * 2 more times. Fasten off.

LEG 2 (Both sizes) Attach yarn to back of pants (shorts) between the legs & work as for LEG 1.

TO FINISH Blanket edge ST to hem of each leg.

BELT CH 120 (130). Fasten off. Attach tassels to either end & thread evenly through the 2nd DC RND below the waist.


Sew in all loose ends.

Your special baby suit is now complete & ready to wear!
